Groton United Charities was established in 1913 when the Charity Commissioners approved the combining of five longstanding endowments, some dating back to 1564 and 1566, into a new scheme. The current income for GUC comes from two parcels of land in Groton and Boxford.
The Trustees meet regularly to consider applications from residents of ‘the Ancient Parish of Groton', which includes some areas that are now part of Boxford. Grants can be made in cases of hardship or for general educational and charitable purposes to residents of Groton and to organisations in adjacent parishes if such grants would benefit the inhabitants of Groton.
Applications for grants or queries about eligibility should be made to the Clerk to the Trustees, Groton United Charities whose contact details can be found in the current edition of the parish newsletter, the Box River News.
